SECURITY SITUATION IN BANGKOK
  Last Updated: 14 June 2010, 17:30

UPDATED - DEMONSTRATIONS IN THAILAND 14 JUNE 2010
Please allow me to update you on what is happening in Thailand at the moment.

After the problems we endured with the political protests in Bangkok last month, the situation is completely back to normal. All central Bangkok hotels which were closed during the protests, including the hotels damaged by arsonists, have re-opened now with full operations in place.

All of the major department stores are open as normal, with the exception of the fire damaged 'Central World'. It is estimated that 18 months will be required for the re-building process.

Sightseeing attractions in Bangkok are operating as usual, plus all entertainment venues and nightlife. Mass transport systems such as the BTS (skytrain) and MRT (subway) are running as scheduled also.

The 'Rajaprasong' area, where the anti-government 'red shirts' set up camp, is back to normal with no signs remaining of the occupation. Thailand is again a shopping and entertainment paradise and the famous Thai smiles have returned.

We would like to appologise that the Asia World offices were closed for 10 days during the protests as our staff were unable to access the area. The fallout from this closure was that our server shut down and many e-mails were lost. Although we have now retrieved these mails, there has been some delay in catching up. Again appologies if this resulted in some delayed replies from our side.

This is the traditional low season period in Thailand so, as usual, the hotels are bringing out some very attractive offers. Please access our online tariff to view our latest special deals. If you do not have a password already, please let us know.

Lastly, we are just completing the Asia World Wholesale Tariff for 2011. Please let us know if you are not a regular receiver of our tariffs and we will put you on the mailing list.

Please do not hesitate to contact Asian Connections for any further information on this situation.
